CoP Winterschool 2012 in Homburg – day 4

I don’t want to post the usual stuff today, but introduce you to Norman Welz from Baden-Baden. Actually, one of Norman’s ancestors is coming from Scotland, as a bondsmen he had to serve the Habsburgs in 1749. Norman has been told this story by his grandfather, and it could well be that the family name goes back to the Scottish “Wallace”, mutating through centuries and finally becoming Welz. As a matter of fact, this has never been proven, but it is a fact that a Scottish bagpipe was passed on in this family, from generation to generation, Norman received it from his grandmother after his grandfather had passed away in 1991. This pipe (second half of 18th century) has now been donated to the College of Piping Museum in Glasgow, where it will be made everlasting!
